British
Judo Trust Supporters Scheme
In 2007, The British Judo
Trust launched an official supporters scheme to enable judo enthusiasts
to get behind the charity and help to raise some additional funds
to make a real difference to the development of our sport.
Signing up and making
a contribution is simple - all you need to do is provide us with
your details and agree to give a regular gift by direct debit. Remember,
if you agree to gift aid your donations, the Trust as a registered
charity can claim an extra 28p from HM Revenue & Customs for
every £1 you give - meaning your support is worth even more.
Official supporters will
receive a specially commissioned British Judo Trust pin badge, plus
a report at the end of the year detailing the causes that have been
supported.

2010
focus for British Judo Trust
The British Judo Trust
is constantly striving to enhance the development of judo throughout
the UK. Last year alone, the Trust supported various projects to
the value of nearly £12,000.
Many clubs and individuals
have benefited from the support of the Trust, and have been able
to achieve their goals and plan for their development.
For the next 12 months,
the Trust will be concentrating on only supporting individuals from
a deprived and disadvantaged background, with the key criteria of
increasing physical activity and promotion of social interaction.
Previously, 80% of the
Trust’s grants went to clubs who submitted applications. Through
concentrating on supporting individuals, the Trust hopes to make
a difference to needy individuals wishing to develop themselves
through the sport of judo.
The Trust will still continue
to run its various fundraising initiatives, including a special
fundraising month, where clubs get the opportunity to organise fun
ways to raise money for the Trust and their own club on a 50/50
basis.

Little
and Gibbons benefit from Trust’s new focus
With help from the British
Judo Trust, elite judoka Gemma Gibbons and Louise Little have less
to worry about in the funding department.
After applying to the Trust
for some financial support to help cover costs, including transportation
& living expenses, Gemma and Louise were informed that they
would both be awarded with a £500 grant.
Commenting on her financial
grant Gemma said: “I am now training at Dartford full time and am
really enjoying it. I am glad I made the move here, and the money
from the Trust will help with my travel to training every day.
“It is really important to
go to the smaller events such as B Tournaments, Opens and Trial
events, to get more fights in to help prepare for when I am selected
for A Tournaments. The money I have received will go towards the
entry fees and travel costs for such events.
“These grants will make a
big difference to individuals as it will for me and I am extremely
happy to have received the award”.
Louise applied for a grant
with the Trust as she does not receive any other source of funding.
Commenting on her recent
successful application Louise said: “To be successful I need funding
to be able to train, travel and attend competitions both nationally
and internationally.
“Competing in B Tournaments
such as the Belgium Ladies Open next year is very important for
me as I am making the transition from junior to senior level. Being
able to gain experience at these events is very beneficial.
“To be recognised by the
Trust and to receive a reward is a great moral booster. This grant
is of vital importance if I am to maintain European and World Level”.
The Trust hopes that this
money will help both players continue with the successful results
that they have gained this year such as Gemma’s bronze at the Tre
Torri International and silver at the Swedish Open and Louise’s
gold medal at the Venray U20 International Tournament. Gemma has
also recently won a bronze medal at the U23 European Championships.
